🇹🇭 Hello, welcome! Take a look inside kaa. Here's what I have for you today:
The world’s biggest sports event starts in less than a month.
Yes, dear north american readers. There’s something bigger than the superbowl (around 186 million viewers).
I’m talking about the real football. The Fifa World Cup. The final in 2022 was watched by 571 million people.
This year’s World Cup is record breaking: three Hosts (United States, Canada, and Mexico), 48 teams, 104 matches.

Why I’m telling you this?
Because if you’re a football supporter spending time in Thailand between june 12 and july 20, you might not be watching the FIFA World Cup.
Two reasons:
Thailand didn’t purchase the broadcasting rights (yet).
Most games kick off when most bars are closed (and you are in bed).
The Situation: Thailand’s Cabinet has approved a 1.3 billion baht budget to purchase the 2026 World Cup broadcast rights. But the rights could cost between 1.6 and 2 billion baht.
So the country needs private sector partners. Difficult because the Thai national team did not qualify. And again: The games are between 11 pm and 11 am – no employed Thai will have the time to watch the FIFA World Cup.
What this means for tourists: If the broadcasting rights won’t be purchased, your hotel TV will not show the games.
The obvious workaround would be visting sportsbars. They have access to foreign broadcasters. My recommendations in Bangkok: Upper Deck, Penalty Spot and Old German Beerhouse. In Pattaya: i-Rovers, Dynamite and Danny’s. But again: most games kick off when the bars are closed.
For example: Bangkok sportsbars usually open at around 8 or 9 am. And they close at around 1 or 2 am. Pattaya: same same.
Facts: 19 games start at 2 am. 10 at 3 am. 7 at 4 am. 9 at 5 am. 6 at 6 am.
To demonstrate the dilemma, I edited the whole World Cup match schedule to show you all kickoff times in Indochina time. The bold games are the ones you might actually be able to watch in a sportsbar.
