Hello, welcome! Take a look inside kaa. Here's what I have for you today:
The 2 common types of American Bangkok travelers.
Why 3 signals are making me sad.
What you should do instead.
❌ Bad Influence
I was digging through Google Trends last night, looking at what Americans search for when they type "Bangkok hotel"...
And oooooh nooooo, what I discovered tells you EVERYTHING about what's broken in how most guys approach Bangkok travel.
The top trending Bangkok hotels from the last 12 months paint a picture of two types of American travelers - and both are completely missing the point.

🧟♂️ Type 1: The Instagram Zombie
Two hotels dominating the searches? The Four Seasons Chao Phraya and 137 Pillars.
Now, don't get me wrong - these are gorgeous properties. Your Instagram feed will look INCREDIBLE.
But here's what nobody's telling you: You're paying up to $726/night for what? A pretty lobby shot? An pool photo that looks exactly like the one posted by 10,000 other tourists?

Meanwhile, you could stay at wonderful 4-star properties like Clover Asoke or Passa for $80-100/night that give you:
Better locations for actually exploring Bangkok.
Authentic Thai hospitality (not corporate-scripted smiles).
Money left over to EXPERIENCE Bangkok instead of just photographing it.
But hey, at least your high school friends will double-tap that poolside breakfast pic, right?

✈️ Type 2: The Airport Hugger
This one actually makes me sad.
Three other trending hotels tell a story of pure fear:
Hyatt Regency Suvarnabhumi (literally INSIDE the airport).
Phoenix Hotel (next to the airport).
Hotel de Bangkok (glued to the Airport Rail Link station Ratchaprarop).

What a wonderful place to stay …
Know what this tells me?
These searchers are so intimidated by Bangkok - so scared of missing their flight or getting "lost" in this big, foreign city - that they're willing to waste their entire trip staying in the most soulless, disconnected parts.
It's like flying to New York City and staying at Newark Airport.
Here's the Truth Nobody Wants to Admit:
These Google searches reveal that most Americans approach Bangkok with either:
Validation-seeking behavior - choosing hotels based on what will impress strangers on social media, rather than what will give them the best experience.
Paralyzing fear - so terrified of navigating a new city that they'd rather hide near the airport than actually visit the place they flew 20+ hours to see.
Both mindsets GUARANTEE you'll miss everything that makes Bangkok incredible.
❌ Don’t Plan A Thailand Trip Without Me!
💡 So What Should You Do Instead?
1) Ignore Instagram before you book anything. Seriously.
2) Understand this: Bangkok's public transport is easier to navigate than New York's subway. The BTS and MRT have English signage everywhere. Grab and Bolt (Thai Uber) work perfectly. You're not going to get lost and miss your flight home.
Tip: If your return flight is in the middle of the night, book one more night in your hotel and organize a Grab/Bolt pickup with a few clicks.
3) Book hotels in neighborhoods where actual life happens: Close to the BTS/MRT stations Asok/Sukhumvit or Si Lom/Sala Daeng.

📋 Your Homework
Before you book ANY Bangkok hotel, ask yourself: "Am I choosing this for my experience, or for my camera roll?" "Am I choosing this because I'm excited, or because I'm scared?"
If you're honest about the answers, you'll probably change your booking. And you'll have a hell of a better time in Bangkok.
