Every headline satisfies an opinion. Except ours.

🇹🇭 Hello, welcome!

Take a look inside kaa. Here's what I have for you today:

I paid 1,200 baht for breakfast at the Shangri-La Bangkok.

For context, a full Thai breakfast at a good local spot runs 80 to 150 baht.

You sit at the river. Sounds good. Then the birds show up. Not once. Repeatedly. Staff chase them away. They come back. For 1,200 baht, you are paying to watch a man wave a towel at pigeons while you eat.

The food selection was fine. Nothing wrong with it. 250 baht would be a fair price.

Book without breakfast. That's the tip that matters for this hotel.

The rest of the stay was a different story. 16th floor, river view facing south down the Chao Phraya. Quiet room, clean bed, every minibar item included in the rate. The location puts you two minutes from the BTS at Saphan Taksin, a short boat ride from Icon Siam across the river, and walking distance from the Sathorn pier. The ghost tower is nearby if that's your thing.

I paid $268 for one night.

For Bangkok, that's a real number. Worth it once, on a good Agoda deal, low season.

Full review is up now: the room, both pools, the spa situation (it's a 10-minute walk from the main building, which is worth knowing before you plan your morning), the minibar, and a straight answer on whether this hotel earns its name at that price.
